Africana.
A Curated Culture Box
Womanist
Africana Box is a quarterly subscription service designed with the fullness of Black women's empowerment at its core. We know that too often women of the Diaspora are expected to place our needs last in line among a never ending list of "Greater Goods."
Social. Financial. Spiritual. Familial. Sexual.
Where does the hierarchy end? Always, it seems, with us.
And yet, our very existence is inextricably tied up in the goodness of all these things. We could no more separate ourselves from one than chop off a limb. But we don't have to.
Firmly rooted in Dr. Clenora Hudson-Weems' 18 principles of Africana Womanism:
Self-Naming. Self-Defining. Family Centered. Whole. Role Flexible. Adaptable. Authentic.
Genuine Black Sisterhood. Struggling with Males Against Oppression. Male Compatibility.
Recognized. Ambitious. Nurturing. Strong. Respected. Displaying Respect for Elders. Mothering. Spiritual.
and
Alice Walker's concept of Acting Womanish:
"Loves other women sexually and/ or non sexually ... commited to the survival and wholeness of an entire people, male and female ... Loves music. Loves dance. Loves the moon. Loves the Spirit. Loves love and food and roundness.
Loves struggle. Loves the Folk. Loves herself. Regardless."
Africana Box offers another option.
What Comes In Your Quarterly Box?
Each Africana Box is carefully curated to create the perfect blend of goodies that represent both the Africana Womanist principles and make reference to the Folk, the Spirit, the Self, the Arts, & Love - all the things a womanish sister (i.e. audacious, courageous, and acting grown) would need!
There will be two subscription boxes with five (5) items in them and two boxes with four (4) items - for a total of 18.
Of course, there are no requirements about how our Africana sisters choose to identify.
Our only rule?
That Africana Box centers us. Black women of the African Diaspora.
For * Us * By * Us,
B A B Y!
For Ourselves. For Our Sisters.
For Our Families. For Our Futures.
For Our Struggle. For The Culture.
For Us.
